Battle Sword Weight: 2 lb 12 oz [1.25 kg] Blade Length: 32 in [81.3 cm]
Such large and heavy swords were generally only carried when going into battle and the knob on the scabbard is to keep it from slipping through the long, heavy sword belt that was tied loosely about the waist over the armor or other protective garments. Both the belt and the scabbard could be discarded easily so as to not get in the way during actual battle when the important thing was the ability to move freely without impediment.
The very large 2 in [5 cm] diameter X 0.75 in [19 mm] thick pommel balances the long, slightly tapered 1.75 in [44.5 mm] wide 3/16 in [5mm] thick blade making the sword amazingly fast for such a large weapon.
The white powder on the blade is a type of micro-crystalline wax used in museums to preserve iron and steel. I was too lazy to remove it; actually, I was too lazy to spend the two hours it would take to put it back on...
Totally leave the powder. Unless, of course, you have to re-apply the stuff. It seems like a long time to put it on to have to do it again and again, though.
It goes on weird and you have to wait a while to see if you've done it right; if not, you gotta do it again. Once it's done properly, there's nothing like it for protecting iron or steel. It ends up being very fine dry flakes and is much less messy that oil.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
